Description
Dyer & Bond, masons, signed a contract agreeing to build a "brick house for an Hospital" on "Mount Joy's Neck" in Portland.
The contract was with Lemuel Moody, chairman of a committee that the town formed to build the hospital.
The agreement sets out the dimensions: 36 feet long, 30 feet wide, and one story high. The foundation was to go down two feet. The brick walls were to be eight inches thick
The building was to have four rooms on the lower floor of equal dimensions. The document specifies other details, such as the number and type of windows, chimneys, floors, roof, and paint.
The town agreed to pay Dyer & Bond $610 for its work.
