Dr. Richard Stevens Letter on CCC, 1985

Description

Dr. Richard Stevens wrote to Norman "Red" Wetherington about his experiences serving in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC).

Stevens wrote about why he joined the CCC, stating among other reasons that, "In those days it was difficult to find summer jobs-many married men were out of work so I joined the CCC. Naturally my mother didn't want me to. I'm sure glad I did."

Wethering collected memories of CCC members in Maine, and coordinated CCC reunions. He is the author of "In the Public Interest: The Civilian Conservation Corps in Maine."
