Description
In the 1910s, Boothbay Harbor area fire companies had junior brigades of boys who trained for competitions with each other. The August 15, 1915 Boothbay Register reported that "The Junior Hose Company, No. 3, will parade both foremoon and afternoon at Boothbay Harbor and will give an exhibition in Townsend Square. The Juniors are a company of juvenile firefighters from West Harbor, having their own hose cart, hose, and firefighting equipment. All the members are boys twelve and under." In this photograph the No. 3 Hose Company demonstrated their hose skills on Townsend Avenue, possibly during the exhibition described above.
