Description
This image shows five men digging limestone by hand in Engine Quarry on the west side of Old County Road in Rockland. The head-sized pieces of limestone will be loaded into a wagon to be hauled to a kiln to be burned. Engine Quarry was originally called the Davis Tillson Quarry, but the more common name became Engine Quarry, pronounced en gīne quarry.
