Twin marine boilers, Portland Company, ca. 1895

Description

The Portland Company built marine and other engines. These two boilers await installation into the passenger side-wheeler Bay State, built in 1895 by the New England Ship Building Company in Bath.

The 12-foot-diameter, 23.8-foot-long boilers have exhaust or smokestack bases on different sides, indicating left or right hand placement.
