Description
Portland Company facilities. "The stiff-leg derrick in the center foreground is operated by the small winch in the box below, to lift heavy objects for loading wagons and flatcars. The pattern storage is in the brick building to the left, and the horse stables are in the right rear. Various horse-drawn carts and wagons can also be seen here, so the photograph most likely dates from the 1880s."--Fletcher, David H. 'The Portland Company 1846-1982.' Charleston, S.C.: Arcadia Pub., 2002. 11.
