Description
Commissary Sgt. Charles H. Pettengill wrote to Martha Usher Osgood of Hollis to thank her for a needle case he received.
Osgood was part of the Buxton-Hollis Soldiers' Aide Society and apparently made the case and embroidered her name in it.
Pettengill of the 29th Maine, was from Auburn. He described himself, told Osgood how lonely he was, and urged her to write to him.
