Description
"The arches which show in this picture were not a part of the original structure. They were probably put there in 1894, to sufficiently strengthen the bridge to permit electric car traffic, as the Skowhegan & Norridgewock Traction line was opened that year. These arches presented eight intersections with the granite piers. In the high water of December 16, 1901 five out these eight intersections were ground off by the ice and logs. The bridge was moved on its foundation, but was not swept away. It was replaced by the present iron structure in 1904.
