Description
"Mary Pugh [the woman in the center of the photograph] was one of Skowhegan's quaintest characters. Time dealt with her kindly, for there was little damage, mental or otherwise, to be observed as the years went by. Her bland and childlike state of mind remained intact.
The man on the left is Tom Lawley, clerk at Hotel Coburn for many years. At the right is John O. Haines, brother of Robert Haines, proprietor of the Coburn. Mr. Haines was the owner, in successive years, of some fast racing stock, kept a livery stable and dealt in carriages.
~ Roland T. Patten, Custodian of Historical Views, 1929"
Mr. Patten's original title for this photograph was the lyric, "We'll All Be Longing for You, Mary," from the George M. Cohan song, "So Long, Mary."
