Sumner Kimball, Lovell, ca. 1915

Description

Sumner Kimball, ca. 1915 in front of his home in Lovell.

"Ruth Kimball bought one of the first Fords, much to her father's disgust. He would neither ride in it, nor permit 'the thing' in his barn. One day his daughter waited until her father had gone to the village in his horse-drawn buggy and was halfway home again, before she started out in her Model T. She met him on the road, proceeded to the store where she did her shopping and still reached home ahead of her father. This convinced him that his opposition was useless and from then on he condescended to ride in the car but never to operate it."

From Moore, Pauline W. Blueberries and Pusley Weed. Kennebunk, Me. ; Star Press Inc., 1970. 252.
