Contributed by The General Henry Knox Museum
Description
After several years of fundraising, the Knox Memorial Association was able to open the doors to Montpelier, a replica of the mansion built by Major General Henry Knox.
The original mansion was built at the head of the St. Georges River in Thomaston in 1794. It was razed in 1871.
The replica was built about a quarter of a mile from the original site, on Route 1 in Thomaston, and was dedicated July 25, 1931.
Standing to the right of the podium is Cyrus H.K. Curtis, publisher and philanthropist, who was one of the major donors to the memorial.
