Description
F.E. Stanley (left) took his guests, Mrs. Ernest Galloway (right) and her daughter Helen (center), on a tour of Boothbay Harbor in his 33' motor launch, The Empress, on August 17, 1912.
Squirrel Island, where the Stanleys had a summer residence, is in the background. Mrs. Galloway was the wife of the Stanley Motor Carriage Company's overseas agent in Great Britain. In addition to conducting business, the Galloway family was touring New England, and spent several weeks in the summer of 1912 visiting Maine as the guests of the Stanleys.
Not visible in the photo are Ernest Galloway, the head of Stanley Steam Car Ltd. of Gateshead-on-Tyne (UK), and Capt. Randall McLellan, the pilot of The Empress.
