Description
A women's tennis match at Squirrel Island, about 1905. Tennis was a popular island activity in the summertime community.
The courts shown here were established in 1894 and in use until 1910 when they were moved to another location on the island.
Part of the island's network of boardwalks can be seen in the foreground; on the hillside beyond are bleachers for the baseball field and several summer cottages. Almost all of these structures were gone by 1930.
