Description

Nurse Mary E. Dupree of Maine wrote to Ellen Usher Bacon, who was involved with relief efforts for soldiers, to report on the arrival of part of the Maine 31st Regiment and the needs of the soldiers.

Dupree served as a nurse with Rebecca Usher, Bacon's sister. She was working for the Maine Agency Sanitary Commission.

She wrote that two soldiers recently released from Libby Prison arrived and were given something to eat. Dupree wrote, "'Oh it's so good' say they 'to site at a table and be civilized once more.'"

She wrote that soldiers arrived at all hours for assistance.
