Description
Bates Mill #5's unique sawtooth roof has accented Lewiston's skyline since its construction in 1914. Also known as the Weave Shed, it is the most architecturally significant of all 11 mill buildings in the entire Bates Mill complex, constructed between 1852 and 1923. The Weave Shed's roof was designed around the mill equipment that would be going into it, specifically for the jacquard weaving of bedspreads, for which the Mill eventually became famous.
The City of Lewiston took possession of the Bates Mill in 1992 and has redeveloped much of the property since.
