Description
Graduates of the first class of the Maine Medical Center School of Nursing.
The 62 students entered in September 1951 and graduated September 10, 1954 at the Portland Country Club. Edith Doane was the Director of Nurses during this time, and Marie Brennan was Educational Director. The students were housed in the Pine Street Nurses' Home and Vaughan Hall, with some students commuting for a short period of time. The Class of 1954 was the first class to wear the MMC nursing uniform, a gray dress with white bib and apron. This class chose the color and design of the cape. The Alma Mater for the school was written by class member Nancy Pope Perkins and set to the music of "Finlandia."
