Description
George Washington Burgess enlisted with the 4th Maine Infantry Regiment on June 15, 1861. He first served in the Regimental Band until the bands were mustered out; at that time he became a private with Co. K 4th Maine and served his three years' enlistment.
His brother, William A. Burgess, served with Co. D, 59th Massachusetts Infantry in 1864.
A printer by trade, he resumed in that business after the war with his brother, Thomas J. Burgess.
