Description
Alden Darwin Chase, volunteered to serve with the Fourth Maine Regiment, Co. K, on June 15, and resigned his position due to illness the next month. He was a member of the Belfast City Greys, the local militia unit.
This nine-page letter was written to his brother, Hiram Chase on July 10, 1861 and recounts interesting events in camp and on the march. The upcoming battle he refers to is First Bull Run fought on July 21, 1861.
