Description
This bayonet was issued to a Civil War soldier likely in the 1st Maine Regiment, Company E, and was used to cut brush or bushes.
The U.S. Model 1832 foot artillery shortsword has a 6-inch solid brass hilt, and an embossed eagle on the pommel. It has a 4-inch crossguard, and a blade 19 inches in length. Brass feather hilt exhibits "8" and " R G " and a "T" cast into opposite quillons. The letters "M", "N" "E" and the number "1" are also cast across the crossguard. Black leather scabbard with brass fixtures.
