Description
This is a postcard of Main Street, Dixfield in the 1940s. The horse and buggies of yesteryear have given way to automobiles. The brick building on the right was the Harlow Block and housed the Stanley Hotel, various retail businesses, and the Rumford Falls Bank and Trust Company. The first building on the left was the Charles Stanley & Sons market and the second one is the Taintor building. There was a taxi stand located here.
The only building that survives in 2013 is the Stanley & Sons building that became Holmes' Market.
