Description
Andrew H. Nickerson, brick-maker, joined the 19th Maine , Co. E in August, 1862. A month later, encamped at Fort Meigs, outside of Washington, he wrote to his grandparents in Swanville, to tell them about his life as a soldier. Andrew was the younger brother of Alfred E. Nickerson and both brothers joined the 19th Maine at the same time. Andrew was discharged on July 15, 1863.
The image on the first page is "View of Harper's Ferry, Virginia."
