Description
Originally incorporated as the Joseph P. Allen braid mill in the 1920s and later housed toothpick machines, this building was transformed into a bowling alley and billiard parlor in the 1940s by Walter Hanson. Many school boys earned spending money setting pins (5 cents a string) for the alleys. In the 1950s a roller skating rink was added to the second floor. Roller skating was enjoyed by the public and various organizations such and the Boy and Girl Scouts for fun outings.
This view is actually of the back side of the building and taken from High Street. The front side runs along the upper limit of Main Street and borders the Webb River. Just across the river in the Town of Mexico, the Carl Merrill gas station can be seen. Unoccupied for many years, the bowling alley was razed in the 1980s and in 2013 is the site of Blouin's Automotive.
