Description
John C. Cobb was born in Westbrook in 1837. He was a teacher. At age 20, he was admitted to practice under the Maine Supreme Court. In 1859, he married Hannah Hawkes of Windham. He served in the 15th Regiment, Maine Volunteers, Company D. After the Battle of Bull Run, he was promoted to Lieutenant and later to Colonel. He mustered out in June, 1865. Following the war, he established a successful law practice in Portland.
