Photograph of Ella Harding Peffer (1887-1945) with one of two daughters, ca. 1912.
Ella Peffer, a native of Portland, auditioned for Crawford Peffer in New York City and was hired in 1908 to sing in "The College Singing Girls" for the Redpath Lyceum Bureau.
The couple married in 1910 at the Harding summer cottage at Falmouth Foreside. She and Katharine Ridgeway, also a retired Chautauqua entertainer, founded the Katharine Ridgeway Camp for Girls in Jefferson in 1932.
