Description
This postcard was written by Omer Morin of Lewiston to his wife, Madeline, while Omer was serving in the U.S. Army's ordinance division during the Second World War. This correspondence is dated August 15, 1945, the day Japan surrendered to the United States, ending the War - in Europe this date is still commemorated as "Victory over Japan Day", or V-J Day (May 8 was denoted "V-E Day" for "Victory in Europe"). On the postcard, Morin reads:
"My Darling:
I will write tomorrow. This place is very nice and a good time to be home. I should be in another Redeployment camp by Sunday. Happy the war is over. Love, Omer."
Like most Franco-Americans of their generation, Omer and Madeline were bilingual.
