Description
Kiah B. Sewall wrote from New York City to his wife, Lucretia Day Sewall, in Portland, about moving out of the rooms they had shared in New York, and his continuing shortage of money.
The couple had lived together in New York until mid April 1837, when Lucretia returned to Portland to stay with her parents. They had married in May 1836.
Kiah Sewall stayed in New York, trying to establish himself there and get out of debt. An 1829 graduate of Bowdoin College, he had lost money while involved in land speculation in Portland.
