Description
Cyrus L. Curtis, a painter, and Saloma Curtis lived in this house at the corner of Brown and Cumberland streets in Portland in 1850 when their son, Cyrus H.K. Curtis was born.
The younger Curtis (1850-1933), whose middle names honored Hermann Kotzschmar, a musician who lived with the Curtis family for several years when he first came to Maine from Germany.
Cyrus H.K. Curtis became a noted magazine publisher in Philadelphia. He donated the Kotzschmar Memorial Organ at Portland City Hall in honor of his namesake and family friend.
