Description
Two shares of the Dixfield Centre Cheese Factory Co. were issued to John J. Holman on June 26, 1875. Dixfield Centre, also known as Dixfield Common, was originally called Holmantown. Incorporated as Dixfield in 1803, the Common was primarily the farming section of the town. Milk was a major product and gave rise to the cheese factory that was incorporated in 1874 by thirty-one shareholders. It was located between the Common and East Dixfield.
