Description
Firemen stand atop stacks of boards and work to put out remaining fires in the Somesville neighborhood of Saco on September 15, 1908. Somesville was a residential area along the Saco River bordering Biddeford, and close to the downtown and mill areas of the two cities. Onlookers mill about the smoldering ruins and watch the two firemen at work. This image was taken by Robert Gay, and was probably turned into postcards which he would have sold-thus the inscription on the image "The Last Stand Saco, ME, Sept 15, 1908."
