Description
Kiah B. Sewall (1807-1865) wrote from Aberdeen, Alabama, to his wife, Lucretia Day Sewall, about his progress on his way north to escape from their home in Mobile and military service with the Confederacy.
Sewall, a native of Edgecomb, and his wife, a native of Portland, had lived in Mobile since 1839. Sewall worked as a lawyer and was involved in the cotton trade. He left Mobile a little over a week before he wrote this letter.
Lucretia Sewall and six of the couple's children were still in Mobile.
