GABBY: HELLO MY NAME IS GABBY AND I AM FROM HALL-DALE MIDDLE SCHOOL. I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS TO ASK YOU IS THAT OKAY?
MELISSA: YES OF COURSE, WOULD YOU LIKE TO LEARN ABOUT THE CYCLONE OF 1895?
GABBY: YES.
MELISSA: OK, WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO KNOW?
GABBY: FIRST I WOUD LIKE TO KNOW YOUR NAME, BEAUSE I AM NOT SURE WHAT TO CALL YOU.
MELISSA: MY NAME IS MRS. PERKINS.
GABBY: OK MRS. PERKINS, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHERE YOU WERE WHEN THE CYCLONE HIT YOUR HOUSE?
MELISSA: WELL I HAD JUST LEFT MY ROOM WHERE I WAS WORKING AND I HAD JUST ESCAPED INJURY. I RAN OUT INTO THE STEET IN HALLOWELL, AND AS I REMEMBER, IT WAS A ONE WAY STREET. FROM THERE I SAW ROOFS BEING THROWN AROUND AND MR. GROVER RUNNING OUT OF HIS STORE. I ALSO NOTICED A LITTLE BOY TRAPPED INSIDE HIS STORE. AFTER THE CYCLONE CAME, DOCTORS CARRIED VIRGIL WHITE TO THE CLEARWATER PHARMACY WHERE HE WAS TREATED.
GABBY: COULD YOU HEAR THE CYCLONE WHEN IT WAS COMING TOWARDS YOU?
MELISSA: YES I COULD HEAR IT. IT WAS VERY RUMBLY AND I COULD HEAR THE TREES BEING RIPPING UP FROM THE GROUND. IT WAS VERY TERRIFYING TO HEAR THE SCREAMS OF THE PEOPLE. (SNIFFLING) I’M SO VERY SORRY BUT I CAN’T SAY ANYMORE ABOUT THIS.
GABBY: OKAY, THANK YOU FOR ANSWRING ALL OF MY QUESTIONS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME, MRS. PERKINS.
MELISSA: YOU SURE ARE WELCOME.
