Description
John Marshall Brown of Portland wrote to his sister, Nellie (Ellen), about the small skirmish federal troops had at John's Island and the "trophies" he got as a result.
He picked up several Confederate sabers, including one with a wooden scabbard. But his "greatest prize of all" was a dilapidated wagon that he fixed up, attached to his horse Bramhall, and had been riding up and down the eight-mile beach on Folly's Island where he was stationed.
