Marshall Phillips on evacuation of Yorktown, 1862

Description
Marshall Phillips of the 5th Maine Regiment wrote to his wife, Diana, of Auburn, about receiving news of the evacuation of Yorktown.
He wrote, "the firing of cannon at that place kept us awake almost all night we expected the battle to commence in earnest this morning and that we should be orderd on but son after daylight we received a dispatch of the evacuation by night..."
