John W. Channing infantry appointment, Augusta 1861

Description
John W. Channing (1825-1899) of Fairfield was appointed as first lieutenant of the E Company of Infantry in the Seventh Regiment, from the First Brigade, and Second Division of the Volunteer Militia of Maine.
He was a captain when discharged in 1864 and was appointed aide-de-camp and lieutenant colonel in 1888.
