Description
W.B. Adams (1842-1922) of Raymond, who was now part of the 1st Maine Veteran Volunteer Infantry Regiment, which comprised soldiers who had been in the 5th, 6th, and 7th Maine infantry units, reported to his sister Dora that the corps has "suffered a great deal" but had stopped the Rebels.
He predicted that they would not try again "to drive us out of the Valley this fall."
The Battle of Cedar Creek, Virginia, was decisive in driving the Confederates from Washington, D.C., and the surrounding area.
