Description

Sgt. Horace M. White of Houlton, a member of Co. E of the Maine 1st Cavalry camped at Belle Plain, Virginia, wrote to his sister about changes in the organization of the division of which his regiment was a part.

He also wrote about conversations with Confederate soldiers from North Carolina and reported that they were friendlier than the Virginians who, he said, make "sarcastic insinuations of Bull Run, Cedar Mountain or something of the sort."
