Description
Young boys have climbed the gallows at the end of the steamboat slip in order to jump into Friendship harbor. Steamboats used the ramp to load and unload supplies. They used the chains attached to the gallows to adjust the ramp to the appropriate height for each steamboat.
The ramp is located at the Jameson & Wotton Wharf, which served as a landing for steamboats traveling up and down the Maine coast.
