Description
It was reason for excitement when Billy Post landed his Piper Cub–the first plane landing ever–on Westport Island. Pictured (l-r) are William "Billy Post", the pilot; Verlie Greenleaf; and her granddaughter, Asenath "Senie" Greenleaf.
Billy Post had worked for Verlie's late husband, Fred Greenleaf, on the family farm. Post landed his plane on Mosier's field (formerly the Rial Colby farm) adjacent to the Main Road. He stayed the night with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Greenleaf and left early the next morning after doing some stunt flying for the gathered townspeople.
