Description

This three-piece powder blue rental tuxedo represents a specific moment in time for men’s formalwear. The 1970s ushered in a new era for the tuxedo. While classic black tie remained popular, bolder tuxedo options appealed to younger audiences looking for a stand out—or in some cases overly coordinated —ensemble for weddings or high school proms. Printed jackets and colored shirts offered a variety of options, but the powder blue tuxedo reigned supreme.

This After Six brand tuxedo includes dinner jacket, vest, and trousers. Crafted to help withstand rental wear-and-tear, the machine washable suit is polyester. The trousers’ unfinished hem suggests this may have been a floor model, never hemmed to a renter’s specifications. While the iconic color is easily recognizable, the wide lapel and slanted pockets confirm the 1970s attribution. The suit was available for rent at Gingiss Formalwear's South Portland location.
