Description
Marguerite Waterman’s 1921 dark ivory wedding dress features several 1920s style elements. A short hemline paired with a lengthy train captures the decade’s appreciation for asymmetrical fashions. The elongated front panel with a swallow’s tail edge (pointed ends and a curved center) is accented with pearl tassels, a quintessential 1920s detail.
Marguerite Waterman (1896-1993) was raised in Portland. In 1921, she married William Bangs Cobb, a University of Maine graduate and World War I veteran. The couple married at Woodfords Congregational Church in Portland.
