Description

On February 9, 1925, Evening Express photographers captured the transfer of millions of dollars in gold and securities from the Chapman Bank at 185 Middle Street to their new home at 477 Congress Street.

Bank officials, contractors, and police quickly loaded empty chests with millions of dollars in gold and securities at Chapman's Middle Street location. After they loaded the bounty, the convoy transported it to the New Chapman building in Monument Square. The move only took the large crew around 5 minutes from door to door.

Bluecoats and paid contractors protected the Chapman convoy with weapons visibly drawn. The bank also paid plainclothes guards and hired a race car for backup while they made the transfer.
