Description
Square Lake covers more than 8,000 acres in far northern Maine. Due to its remote location, it attracted few permanent settlers and never became a substantial commercial or industrial hub. It became an outdoor sporting destination at the end of the nineteenth century. The area continues to attract a seasonal population that comes to enjoy outdoor leisure activities.
The photograph was printed on cardstock and may have been intended as a postcard. There is no further information on the back. The woman's clothes would hint at a pre-World War I date.
