Description
Photographs in an album created by Anne Sheldon Swift (1916-2003) taken during a canoe trip in the Katahdin region. The caption reads: "Looking up and across."
Sheldon family members, together and on their own, took regular late summer trips to the Katahdin region from 1900 to 1951, documenting their journeys in photographs, diaries, and correspondence. Harrison Tweed Sheldon (1883-1933), began traveling from New Haven, Connecticut, to Maine's Katahdin and Moosehead Lake region for camping, canoeing, and fishing trips in his late teens. When he and Alice Cooper Stanton (1879-1967) married in 1915, the two chose the Katahdin area for their honeymoon, and after the birth of their daughter, Anne, the family continued to visit.
