Description
A pair of lifeguards work to maneuver their canoe through the surf. The Portland Press Herald often published similar images to promote tourism in Maine.
The roster of lifeguards at Old Orchard Beach in 1926 consisted of four young men: Harold N. Bockoven of Connecticut, William R. MacDonald Jr. (The Captain) of Boston, Massachusetts, Stanley Paine of Worcester, Massachusetts, and Dudley P. Miller. All these men attended Springfield College. It is unclear which of those men are the subjects of this picture.
