The Lifeguard Crew of Old Orchard Beach, 1926

Description

Four Lifeguards in bathing suits sit on a canoe at Old Orchard Beach. Pictured left to right: Harold N. Bockoven of Southington, Connecticut; Captain William R. McDonald Jr of Boston, Massachusett; Stanley Paine of Worcester, Massachusetts; and Dudley P. Miller.

All four lifeguards attended Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts. Bockoven had spent two years as a lifeguard at Old Orchard and played third base for Springfield Baseball. McDonald Jr had spent four years lifeguarding at Old Orchard and played halfback at Springfield. Paine was in his first year at Old Orchard and played first base at Springfield. Miller was starting his second year at Old Orchard and captained the swim team at Springfield.
