Description

Cowboy Tom Mix visited Bayside Park in Portland on June 11, 1937, with his traveling show "The Tom Mix Wild West Show." Eager children swarmed the silent movie star upon his arrival. Press Herald photographers captured nine-year-old Rose L. Maxwell of 68 Bradley Street, Portland, sitting with Mix as he shows off his six-shooter to his young fan.

Rose was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles M. Maxwell. Bayside Park, once home to multiple Portland baseball teams, was demolished in the late 1960s

Tom Mix was a silent western actor, appearing in 291 films between 1909 and 1935. He also worked for multiple Wild West Circus shows, the Sells-Floto Circus between 1929-31 and his own, The Tom Mix Wild West Show between 1935-38.
