Contributed by Acadian Archives

Description

Sam Jalbert (1889-1972) was born in Allagash, Maine, the son of Joseph and Helen Russell Jalbert. He spent his childhood in the Michaud Farm settlement region. Jalbert became a registered Maine guide in 1905 and worked as a guide and as the owner-operator of the Long Lake Camps on the Allagash Waterway. He married Adelia Jandreau and raised a family of eight sons and three daughters. Jalbert died in Fort Kent on May 28, 1972.

This photograph shows Jalbert playing the harmonica for his granddaughter, Elizabeth Rhodes (now Perritt). It was taken at Jalbert's sports camp at Long Lake on the Allagash chain of lakes and rivers in July 1960. The Acadian Archives received permission from Mrs. Perritt for the use of this image.
