Description
This image features a statue of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in Portland, taken slightly from the right. Longfellow wears a suit and is draped in a cloth, possibly a professor/graduation gown. He has chin-length hair and a full beard.
The photograph is inscribed with "35 [cents]" written in pencil upper right corner verso. "Statue of / H.W. Longfellow / Portland / Me / by Simmons." written in ink in cursive verso. Thomas de Valcourt wrote the return address in pencil verso. "H.W. Shaylor / Photographer / Portland, Maine." is stamped in purple ink. "1888?" is written in pencil in the lower right corner verso.
