John Brooks "Jack" Howard photographed this view of a rocky cascade during a trip on the West Branch of the Penobscot circa 1910.
Jack Howard was a Boston family man, businessman, sportsman, and photographer whose passion was exploring the "big woods" of Maine. He made innumerable trips to Maine to hunt, fish, and photograph between 1900 and 1940. His legacy includes hundreds of photographic negatives on 4x5 and 5x7 inch glass plates and various sizes of celluloid film, as well as nearly 200 lantern slides.
