Contributed by Maine Seacoast Mission
Description
The Mission built the Head Harbor Island Church in 1910. In 1881, 117 people lived on the island, supported by the growing granite quarry industry. After World War II, shipping granite by water became too expensive, as railroads and trucks transported it more efficiently from mainland quarries.
